Range Rover Classic Headlight Replacement
The Range Rover Classic's headlights were nothing to crow about. They are the same headlights you had on your 1973 Ford Maverick
back in the day. They gave off a lovely yellow color of light. And if you were lucky you could see large objects in front of you.
I resolved after driving the Discovery with it's excellent array of light that I must replace these. Lucas, a proper
Englishman declared that, "Gentlemen don't go motoring about in the dark." And thus he was labeled the Prince of Darkness. So what's
a man to do? Turn to the Germans of course. Hella Headlamp replacement gives you German engineering in da howze. Just like the
commercials for VWs.
First order of business is getting the grill off. It's made of a plastic and held in place with friction tabs.
Prying them up is all that is required to
release the top part of the grill. The bottom is held in place with a
lip on the bottom. It is a bit tricky to get loose.
But you shall persevere if you try hard.
The new lamps are very nice. We can examine what came in the
box. I have removed the cap so you can see the
electrical connection bits. Not too much else to look at so we will remove the old lamps now.
There is a single screw that holds the lamps in place.
I positioned the screwdriver in the hole for you to see it's location. The other connection points are just slots on screws.
You can see that in this pic. We'll use this pic again
to describe the install.
The combination beauty rings and lense holders use a clip to hold
the lamp in the ring and on that vehicle. I cleaned the rings up when I pulled them out. They had a lovely layer of dirt on them.
There was also some rust forming on the inside under the chrome. I brushed it off. But I'm not too worried about them rusting out.
Once you have them replaced in the rings connection them up. I cleaned out the plug a bit and added some white grease to each
connector just for fun. You will need to make sure you have them lined back up when you put the rings with the lamps back into
the frame. Make sure the slots are lined up with the
adjustment screws.
And you are done. They look great. Just put the grill
back in and finish up. On the Difficulty Scale this is a 1. Nothing
difficult about it. You can do it Duffy Moon.
Thanks for reading and happy Rovering in the dark.
